2004-2005 the 3th National retrospective survey of cause of death
Information of cause of death reflects health condition of population, priority of population health control, guide the effective allocation of health resources, which is important for formulation health policies in China. There are two main sources of cause of death in China: 1 Survey of cause of death: there are 3 retrospective cause of death survey in China, which collected information of 1973-1975, 1990-1992, 2004-2005; 2 cause of death surveillance: the development of national disease surveillance system has three phases: the first phase is 1978-1989, which is characterized of increasing surveillance points, but is not representative; the period between 1990 and 2000 is the second phase, which is characterized of developing a comprehensive system which based on multi-stage stratified random sampling method to provide representative data; the third is from 2003 to now, the system covers more population.
This 3th national retrospective survey of cause of death was conducted in 2006 to understand distribution and population characteristics of cancer mortality which could provide evidence for making policies about cancer prevention, developing comprehensive cancer registration system and understanding risk factors for priority diseases.
